    “Kansas At University Health’s Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Clinic, our focus is on surgery of the face, mouth, jaws and teeth. Our surgeons treat a wide variety of problems, from tooth extractions to repairing serious birth defects and injuries. Our staff is trained in giving the safest, most effective sedation so your surgical experience is as comfortable as possible.

    We use state-of-the-art, full-cranial 3-D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning and care of your treatment. These images enable a level of accuracy and patient care not possible with other technologies.

    We are very aware of the stress experienced by our patients and understand the impact a procedure can have. This is why we strive to make your experience a model of quality care through advanced treatment, compassionate support, and open communication for your overall health and wellness.

  • Cleft Lip

    “Kansas Cleft lip and cleft palate occur very early in pregnancy, while the baby is developing inside the mother. Clefting happens when there is not enough tissue in the mouth or lip area, and the tissue that is available does not join together properly.

    “Kansas Treatment or oral cancer which often appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away. Oral cancer, which includes cancers of the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and throat, can be life threatening if not found and treated early.

  • Dr. Barber

    “Kansas Scott Barber, DDS, is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon serving as a clinical assistant professor with the UMKC Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program. He received his DDS from Creighton in 2003 and completed residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2008. He spent several years owning and operating two private practices before returning to full-time academics. Dr Barber has lectured nationally on the treatment of facial trauma and authored a research paper on the microbiology of oral cancer. He has particular interests in treating adult and pediatric facial trauma, pathology of the face and oral cavity, and performs facial reconstruction using the latest techniques and materials. Dr Barber is especially active in resident education and responsible for much of their clinical education.

  • Dr. Daifallah

    “Kansas Thaer Daifallah, DDS, is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon serving as an Assistant Professor and Director of the UMKC Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training program. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2009 and completed residency in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program in 2014, both at UMKC. Dr. Daifallah completed his fellowship in Facial Cosmetic Surgery at Kansas City Surgical Arts Center, and is preparing for the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery certification.

    Dr. Daifallah is currently active in clinical research. He has lectured nationally and internationally and has co-authored book chapters on topics related to craniofacial surgery.

    Dr. Daifallah has a broad scope of practice in facial cosmetics and oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures and is dedicated to providing excellent care to his patients. He is fluent in Arabic.

  • Dr. Ferguson

    “Kansas Dr. Brett Ferguson, DDS, FACD received his degree in dentistry from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1981 where he completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, serving as Chief Resident. He is Director of the UMKC OMS Graduate Training Program, Chairman of OMFS at Truman Medical Center and Chairman of Hospital Dentistry at the UMKC School of Dentistry.

  • Dr. Haggerty

    Dr. Christopher Haggerty, DDS, MD received his dental degree from UMKC. He completed a combined Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/M.D. residency in 2002 at Louisiana State University, where he received his medical degree and also completed an internship in general surgery/neurosurgery in 2006.

    Dr. Haggerty is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

  • Dr. Kern

    “Kansas Dr. Robert J Kern, DDS, PC received his dental degree at University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency and a fellowship in Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at Truman Medical Centers and the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2002. In 2008. Dr. Kern was awarded the Faculty Excellence Award from UMKC’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Program.

  • Dr. McAmis

    Dr. Ronald Wayne McAmis, DDS, received his dental degree and his Certificate of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from UMKC. He has served our country as an OMFS surgeon in both the Marines and Navy; and is a highly decorated soldier. He has served as the Section Head for Dental and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Baptist Hospital, as an Associate Clinical Professor of Dentistry and Medicine at the University of Missouri Kansas City, and as the Secretary Treasurer of the Missouri Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
